Lochee United 3 Downfield 0
Lochee United gained revenge for their defeat at the hands of the Spiders in December with a convincing win at rain-soaked Thomson Park.
First half goals from Kevin Milne and Bryan Deasley were added to by Greg Kirk in the second half to give the Bluebells a comfortable victory.
The home side opened the scoring on seven minutes when Kevin MILNE got the break of the ball in midfield and raced in on goal. His shot beat the advancing Grant Adam in the Downfield goal and trickled towards the line, followed in by Bryan Deasley.
Despite efforts by the visiting defenders the referee deemed the ball to have crossed the line and a goal was awarded.
It was mostly Lochee on the attack but Danny Millar had to be alert at the other end to clear the ball off the line.
Milne hit the bar as Lochee pressed for the second goal, but, as if to illustrate how important it was to take your chances when on top, Scott Webster was forced into a great block to prevent Dale Davidson equalising.
But the second did eventually arrive just two minutes before the break and it was brilliantly set up by Milne. His cross from the right was placed right on the head of DEASLEY who bulleted the ball home from close range.
Downfield had a chance to reduce the deficit on half time but Ross Storrier’s free kick was wide of Josh Gorton’s goal.
The second half followed the same pattern though, once again, Webster had to put in a great tackle to prevent Gavin Thomson from getting in a shot.
Steven McNally almost got on the scoresheet with a vicious cross that clipped the top of Adam’s bar on 62 minutes, but the third goal was only delayed by a further two minutes, a Dougie Cameron corner kick being headed into the net by Greg KIRK.
The game was all but over now and Adam produced another fine save, this time from a Deasley rocket.
Substitute Danny Cavanagh almost scored with a scorching free kick that rattled Adam’s bar and the final say went to Webster who beat a couple of defenders before shooting wide.
A convincing win in the end for Lochee with Cameron and Grant Lawson commanding the midfield and Milne and Deasley giving the Spiders’ defence a whole host of problems with their energy. Special mention to Webby who made a few crucial blocks when the visitors threatened.
Best for Downfield was Ryan Hunter who battled away in midfield.
