McQuillan hat-trick powers Whitburn to victory against Bathgate
Whitburn took the initiative in their Consolation League Cup group as they defeated Bathgate 3-0 thanks to a trio from top goal scorer Andy McQuillan. In truth they were never in any danger, as one might have expected from the hard 1-1 draw the teams played out earlier in the season at Creamery Park. Of course this may have been related to the fact that Whitburn were 2-0 up within the first quarter hour, both goal from crosses and both scored by the afore-mentioned McQuillan. Bathgate's only glimmer of hope came late in the half when Aiden McKee was fouled in the box but Andrew Wilson saved Jordan Duncan's spot kick diving brilliantly to his right to knock the ball almost into touch. The second half saw Whitburn continue to dominate and the game was put beyond Bathgate when McQuillan cooly controlled a left wing cross and slotted it beyond the visiting keeper to claim his 19th goal of the season. This win takes Whitburn to 7 points with a home tie against Rosyth to come and they have a massive 6 goal differential compared to Bathgate.
