Having beaten Linlithgow at Prestonfield earlier in the season, Penicuik were hoping to achieve the double over the Rose and for the first fifteen minutes of the game were by far the better side. Killin had a great chance in the 19th minute when he was unmarked at the back post, but he failed to hit the target when Gay’s inch perfect cross picked him out. Then, following a corner to Penicuik immediately afterwards, Penicuik’s Bunyan saw his header crash back off the bar and Killin’s flick brilliantly tipped away by keeper Christie. Linlithgow then broke quickly from defence, and RODDY McLENNAN beat Lister to the ball, rounded Bejaoui to score. In the 36th minute a long clearance was missed by Bunyan and the ball was laid off into the path of Kelbie. Cunnison got a foot to the ball and Bejaoui did well to block his defender’s mishit clearance. Linlithgow doubled their lead in the 38th minute when a long clearance by keeper Christie was missed by Cunnison. The ball was turned inside by Strickland to RUARI McLENNAN who resisted tackles from McCulloch, White and McDermott to slot the ball past Bejaoui. Two minutes later, following a corner to Linlithgow, the ball was cleared to the edge of the penalty box and full back WILSON slammed the ball home through a ruck of players.
Half Time: Penicuik 0 Linlithgow 3
Two minutes into the half and Linlithgow attacked up the right wing where Kelly got round the back of Penicuik’s defence only to see his cut back blocked for a corner. From the corner, the ball fell to Batchelor but he dragged his shot wide of the target. In the 50th minute a neat move by Penicuik saw Killin allowed to drive in on goal, but fortunately for the visitors, his shot lacked power and was easily gathered by Christie. Killin took a hefty knock in the process and was substituted shortly afterwards. Penicuik were given a glimmer of hope in the 58th minute when, after his first attempt was blocked by Roddy McLennan, Gay crossed the rebound to the back post where JANCYZK coolly volleyed past Christie. Penicuik tried hard to work back into the game and in the 73rd minute, a shot by Ross was deflected away for a corner. Minutes later, Linlithgow keeper Christie punched away a Penicuik corner kick and Roddy McLennan was set free. However, he delayed his pass too long and Wilson was forced wide on the left. He cut back in and tried to curl the ball in at the far post, but his effort went well wide of the target. Three minutes later, Bejaoui pulled off the save of the game when he turned Roddy McLennan’s net bound shot round the post for a corner kick.
Final Score: Penicuik 1 Linlithgow 3
