Report from the Fauldhouse United

Star Turn

Another crucial match for the House as the games start to run out towards the end of the season this time away to title chasers Newtongrange Star. Nitten wasted no time with their intentions when after only three minutes striker Chris King found himself in space running towards the penalty box and shot past Murphy in the United goal for an early 1-0 lead. Fauldhouse replied in the next few minutes though a good move involving Deans, Scott and Robertson who's shot was deflected out for a corner. The lively Robertson tested Amos in goal next as Fauldhouse tried to get back into the game, it was end to end at this point and could have easily been two goals apiece on chances. Jamieson had a shot on the Fauldhouse goal but Murphy was alive to it to turn it round the post, twenty minutes gone. The Star doubled their lead after a great cross in from the right found Wilson and he promptly dispatched his header home...2-0. To their credit Fauldhouse were still causing Nitten a few problems with their pace up front as they tried to peg the Star back. Two minutes before the interval Fauldhouse were thrown a lifeline when Jamie Robertson fired in a shot which took a slight deflection sending the goalie the wrong way... Half time, Newtongrange Star 2 Fauldhouse United 1.

Fauldhouse came out second half looking to reduce the leeway, and on five minutes Kevin Ross nodded in at the far post from a good corner kick delivered perfectly by Rees Smith... Newtongrange 2 Fauldhouse 2 and game on. United were certainly not giving up on this one and were taking the game to the Star at every opportunity, Deans and Robertson combining well down the right tormenting the Nitten defence. Ten minutes in the House goalie Murphy brilliantly blocked a shot from Chris King to keep it all square. Clark Campbell for United was back to his best winning control of the mid-field as Fauldhouse were now looking to take all three points back home and going for the winner. A great chance to take the lead fell to live wire Brian Ross, he turned the Star full-back inside out creating space to shoot which was only inches by the post. Nitten threw on a couple of subs to try and get in front but time ran out for a final score of... Newtongrange Star 2 Fauldhouse United 2.

Who would have thought at two nil down United coming away anything, but a never say die performance earned a point and it could have easily been three, well done lads.
