League

Brechin Vics 2 Kirrie Thistle 1

Vics moved up to 3rd position in the league with another hard fought victory. Conditions were far from ideal with a heavy pitch and a strong gusty wind making flowing football difficult. Vics were first to threaten when on 8 mins McKay came close with a header from a KIng cross. Kirrie were gradually getting into the game and took the lead on 12 mins when Young was adjudged to have committed a foul 22 yards from goal. Morrice of Kirrie stepped up and sent great free kick past the helpless Robbie in the Vics goal. Vics were finding Kirrie stubborn opposition and were finding it hard to trouble their goal. King did have an attempt after 20 mins but his free kick from 25 yards was wide of the target. Mitchell was next to have an effort when he sent an angled shot from 18 yards just wide of the goal. The game then descended into a midfield battle with chances at a premium. Vics almost grabbed an equaliser on 44 mins when Dunn hit the post with a drive from 20 yards.

Half time 0-1

Vics started the second half in determind fashion taking the game to Kirrie. Renilson was first to threaten when on 56 mins his angled shot from 12 yards was saved by the keeper. A minute later Vics equalised when Strachan progressed down the right and slammed an angled drive from 15 yards past the diving keeper and into the net. Vics were buoyant at this point and came close to taking the lead on 60  mins when King laid the ball to McKay who's turn and shot from 12 yards was just wide of the target. Kirrie came back into the game and had a good spell of possession but failed to trouble the Vics rear guard. The game once again turned into a midfield battle with both sides playing neat enough football but neither was able to seriously trouble the respective goal keepers. Vics thought they had taken the lead when on 80 mins Mitchell headed the ball into the net from 8 yards but his effort was disallowed for offside. Vics eventually took the lead on 89 mins when a Whitworth header from 8 yards was only parried by the Kirrie keeper with Young reacting quickest to squeeze the ball into the net from 6 yards.

Full time 2-1
