Luncarty 2 Brechin Vics 5
Vics started the New Year with a hard earned victory against their Perthshire opponents. Vics started brightly and Mitchell had a shot from 18 yards saved by the keeper. Both sides were finding the heavy conditions difficult to master with many of the moves breaking down before any chances were created. Luncarty came close on 18 mins when Robbie produced a good save from a header from 10 yards. A minute later Robbie again was brought into action saving a shot from 20 yards. Vics came back and again Mitchell had a shot from a Dunn cut back saved by the keeper. Vics came close on 25 mins when both Steel and Mitchell had shots blocked by last gasp Luncarty defending. Luncarty were dealt a blow when McKinlay was sent off for remarks made to the referee. Being down to 10 men seemed to galvanise Luncarty and they took the lead on 36 mins when a Kelly chip came back off the crossbar for Cook to tap home the rebound from 5 yards.
Half time 1-0
Vics were on level terms on 56 mins when a King corner was flicked on at the near post by Strachan to Whitworth who from 8 yards smashed the ball into the net. Vics had their tails up and started to play some neat football and took the lead on 60 mins when a King through ball found McKay who advanced forward before shooting high into the corner of the net from 22 yards giving the keeper no chance. Luncarty's discipline was letting them down and were reduced to 9 men on 75mins when Gray was sent off for two yellow cards. As often happens Luncarty rallied and long balls into the Vics box were causing problems for the Vics defence. Luncarty eventually equalised on 85 mins when Carle slotted past Robbie from 12 yards after another long ball into the box. This set back seemed to wake up Vics and on 88 mins a great move down the left involving Mitchell and Wilson resulted in the latter sending over a cross to Renilson who headed into the empty net from 6 yards. A minute later Vics made it four when Dunn and Young exchanged passes before playing in Mitchell who from 18 yards sent the ball high into the roof of the net. Vics weren't finished however and scored a fifth in stoppage time when Mitchell was brought down in the box and a penalty kick was awarded. In the aftermath a further 2 Luncarty players were red carded. After the delay Whitworth stepped up and slotted the ball into the net to complete the scoring.
