Brechin Vics 2 Downfield 3

This fixture was rearranged to be played at Victoria Park after Downfield had a fire in their changing rooms. The match was preceded with a minute silence in respect of Tommy Gilmartin. Vics started well and were rewarded with a goal after 10 mins. Gourlay broke from defence down the right wing, played the ball to King before advancing and slotting King's cut back into the corner of the net from 12 yards. Vics probably just about deserved their lead at this point with both teams struggling to cope with the very heavy conditions. Much of the play was contained in the middle of the park with clear cut chances at a premium. Downfield were beginning to put pressure on Vics defence and equalised on 29 mins when Robbie produced a great instinctive save only for the ball to spin high into the air and was headed into the net by Clark form 2 yards. Vics came back at Downfield and on 42 mins Burton had a shot from 18 yards saved by the keeper. Robbie again was brought into action on 42 mins when he saved well from Lunan

Half time 1-1

Downfield almost took the lead a minute after the restart but Lunan's effort was wide of the target. Vics came back well and both Renilson and Young had efforts from 18 yards and 25 yards respectively both saved by the keeper. Downfield took the lead on 62 mins when Lunan advanced down the left before cutting in and slotting a 16 yard shot passed the diving Robbie. Vics were fighting hard to get back into the game but their final ball was lacking. Downfield went further ahead on 77 mins after a bit of a scramble in the box which Vics failed to clear and the ball was prodded over the goal line from 3 yards. Vics retaliated and King had an effort cleared off the line before Ross was too high with an effort from 10 yards. Vics kept plugging away and were rewarded with a penalty kick on 85 mins when Steel was felled in the box. Whitworth stepped up an sent the keeper the wrong way from the resultant kick. Vics had another couple of changes in the final 2 mins when Whitworth had an effort from 8 yards deflected over the crossbar before King had a 30 yards effort well saved by the keeper.
