Report from the Kirriemuir Thistle |
Thistle came back to Earth with a bump following a poor showing against Lochee Harp. After much deliberation over whether the game would go ahead, Kirrie started the better of the two, new signings Kameni and Scott both being brought straight in. Despite the horrendous conditions Thistle played some good football in the opening exchanges but failed to make the pressure pay. As the half went on Harp began to test the Thistle defence, Petrie shooting from range before Scrimgeour found Norrie with a free kick and he headed wide. Lochee took control midway through the half, taking the lead when Norrie's deflected cross was spilled by Knox at Scrimgeour and the ex Kirrie man found the empty net. George presented Norrie with the opportunity to double the hosts advantage but he fired over whilst one on one. On the half, Kirrie were unlucky not to level, Knox's long kick being misjudged by opposite keeper Hutchison and his defence but full back McKay was alert to the danger and scrambled the ball off the line and away.
Lochee started the brighter from the restart testing the Kirrie rearguard with a spell of set pieces, and their constant pressure paid off when Blair nodded in McKay's looped cross. In amongst a flurry of Harp attacks, Ogg had a goal bound shot blocked and George sent a snapshot wide. Blair was proving a handful for the visitors, firing a lengthy shot inches over. Kirrie, ten minutes from the end had a glorious opportunity to pull one back but after good work by Scott, Ogg couldn't beat Hutchison who was equal to his powerful drive. The scoring was completed when Harp got a third 5 minutes from the end, Petrie cutting in from the right and finding the far left hand post. Knox kept the score at three with a stunning one handed flick over the bar from Blair's effort, drawing applause from all round the ground. Thistle remain one point above Harp having played a game more and travel to Scone next week.
