Report from the Brechin Vics

League

Kirrie Thistle 1 Brechin Vics 0

Vics travelled to Kirrie and were welcomed by a very heavy and uneven surface. Vics were immediately on the attack and Steel just failed to pick out Fenby with a through ball. Kirrie showed their menace and Millar hit the crossbar with a shot from 18 yards. Both sides were finding the conditions difficult and it wasn't until 18 mins before the next chance was created when Fertacz had a turn and shot cleared for a corner kick. Vics came even closer on 26 mins when Fenby flicked on a King corner which was met at the back post by the sliding Strachan but his effort from 6 yards was wide of the target. Vics had a couple of attempts on 40 and 41 mins when firstly S Eaton's free kick was wide of the target and then King had a shot from 20 yards saved with Young knocking the rebound again wide of the target.

half time 0-0

Kirrie had the first attempt of the second half on 48 mins when Robbie produced a good diving save from an 18 yard shot. Vics came back and Fertacz was next to have an attempt but his shot from 18 yards was wide of the goal. Kirrie took the lead on 61 mins when Robbie parried a shot at the near post with McBride reacting to prod the ball into the net from 6 yards. Vics almost equalised immediately when Gourlay's cross come shot eluded the Kirrie keeper and scraped the far post before going behind for a goal kick. Vics were struggling to get any flow into the their game but still had further chances when Fertacz had a shot from 8 yards saved before King had an effort from 20 yards just wide of the target. With 15 mins remaining Fertacz should have done better with a header from 8 yards but the attempt was wide of the goal. Kirrie were still dangerous and Robbie was forced into a good save from a 25 yard shot from Massie. With time running out Vics had one final attempt when a King free kick from 20 yards produced a diving save from the keeper before Whitworth crashed the follow up wide of the target.
