Report from the Kirriemuir Thistle

Kirrie Thistle came out with a point a piece against Angus rivals Arbroath Victoria after a nervy second half in which they were outplayed and reduced to ten men. Having lost last week at home to Newburgh Thistle knew they had to get a result here and went close twice in the opening minutes, loanee Robb seeing his cross punched away before Muckersie fizzed a free kick just over.

Against the run of play, and with their first shot on target, Vics took the lead. Thompson firing in off the post from the edge of the box. Kirrie got their deserved equaliser a minute later, George sending an incredible 40 yard pass across field to Millar who left his marker for dead and crossed to Muckersie who headed downwards into the net. Youngster Hester threatened before half time for Arbroath but was sent off for a ridiculous studs up challenge on Ogg after being kept out by Knox.

The second half saw Vics continue to press, Knox denying Warren with a full length dive and then again one on one. Ogg tested Cargill with a 30 yard strike before Knox again came to the rescue Flicking Scott's close range effort over dramatically. McBride had a glorious chance chance to score but the winger could only find the side netting. Smith was brought on in an attempt to find the winner but in his first game back from suspension he was shown red again for a petulant stamp on Florence. In the closing stages Arbroath looked more likely to score but Thistle's defence remained resolute and the points were shared. Kirrie face a tricky home tie against Luncarty, who were beaten 4-1 by East Craigie, next week.
