East Craigie 2 Kirriemuir Thistle 2
Under the stewardship of messrs Gauld and Smith Kirrie Thistle claimed a disappointing point away to Dundee side East Craigie. Thistle introduced new signing McBride and trialist Robb into the midfield four in an attempt to replace absentees Massie and Sievwright, and both showed promise throughout the ninety. After the short journey to the oldest junior ground in Scotland the game kicked off at a frantic pace, Craigie being reduced to ten men after only ten minutes when Martin was sent off for an stamp on Duffy. This was a sign of things to come with no lesser than eleven other bookings during the game.
Despite the man advantage Thistle failed to profit and fell behind unexpectedly when Bowie disposed his marker 20 yards out and fired low past the diving Knox into the bottom left corner. And the hosts almost doubled their shock lead through McDonald but the frontman could only volley over the bar.
The visitors bounced back however and got their opener just before the break, youngster Hill beating his man then firing a cross-come-shot at goal allowing captain George to hurl himself at the ball to head home; 1-1. And moments later the scoreline was completely flipped on it's head when Muckersie delivered an inviting cross into the eighteen yard box to top scorer Steven Barclay who's Drogba-Esq header looped over the helpless keeper.
The second half saw much of the same, frantic play and persistent fouling from both sides, which wasn't helped by the card happy man in the middle. McDonald again threatened after some nice build up play however his long range effort was well held by Knox.
Unfortunately for Thistle they were made to pay for some sloppy defending midway through the half when East Craigie claimed an equaliser through centre back Ferrie, hooking in a knockdown from defensive partner Macfarlane. Both sides pushed for the elusive winner as the game drew to a close but neither team could find the all important strike, Miller coming closest for Kirrie. Nipping through 1 on 1 with the keeper but being denied well. The game ended on a sour note with a second East Craigie player being sent from the field, this time Ward for an elbow on George. Kirrie could have won it with the last kick of the game but the ever impressive Hill squandered the chance, blazing high over on the half volley. Thistle travel to the small town of Crosshill next week to face Crossgates Primrose in the East of Scotland cup, please contact a club official if you wish to reserve a seat on the bus.
