Arbroath Vics 3 Brechin Vics 6
After an encouraging pre season Brechin travelled to Arbroath to meet their namesakes in the first league game of the season. It was Arbroath who drew first blood on 10 mins when Fotheringham at the back post headed Arbraoth into the lead from 6 yards. Brechin fought back and McKay had a shot from 10 yards saved by the keeper. Brechin equalised on 17 mins when Young sent in a delightful cross and found McKay who scored with a header from 6 yards. Brechin were having the better of the game and McKay again tested the keeper after being set up by Fertacz. New signing Fertacz was again in action just before the interval but his shot from 20 yards was just wide of the target.
Half time 1-1
Brechin came out all guns blazing and hit Arboath with a 5 goal burst in a 25 min period of outstanding attacking football. Dunn was the first to score on 50 mins when his shot from 18 yards took a deflection and ended up in the back of the net. Three minutes later it was 3 when King steered the ball into the net from 16 yards after being set up by Dunn. Another good passing move presented Young with a chance but his shot was saved by the keeper. Goal number 4 came on 65 min when Fertacz picked up the ball and glided past three players before slotting the ball past the keeper. A minute later it was 5 when Fertacz again drove forward before playing in McKay who fired an angled drive past the keeper from 18 yards. Dunn completed Brechin's scoring on 75 mins when he reacted to a lose ball and slotted into the net from 8 yards. Arbraoth came back into the game in the last 15 mins with 2 goals in the space of a minute but Brechin easily seen the game out for a well deserved victory.
