Report from the Fauldhouse United

It's all over!

A game Fauldhouse had to win to keep up any faint hopes of winning the league, and get a point to be officially promoted but we got neither! From as early on as eight minutes United showed their intentions with Rees Smith shooting just wide and Craig Chilton bringing out a great save from Bejaoul in the Penicuik goal on quarter of an hour. Then against the run of play after a tussle with Jamie Gallagher and McCulloch in the penalty box the big number 9 went down for a soft penalty, Cunnison stepped up to put Penicuik 1-0 in front. Fauldhouse responded immediately with Jamie Gallagher heading a Rees Smith free kick inches over. In the next ten minutes the luck was not with us as Jason Deans hit the bar and post and Sam Scott rattled the cross bar, and we went in for a half-time score of... Penicuik Ath. 1 Fauldhouse Untd. 0.

Second half Penicuik took the game more to United with McCulloch missing a sitter as the home side tried to stretch their lead. Another couple of chances went begging as Athletic pressed for the all important second goal and it duly arrived on sixty five minutes when number eight Gay pounced to slip the ball past Andy Murphy for 2-0 and an uphill task now. Ten minutes later another soft penalty this time in favour of Fauldhouse as Ross Donnelly was adjudged to be brought down in the area, Craig Chilton took the spot kick to reduce the leeway... 2-1 game on !  Andy Murphy pulled off a great save fifteen minutes to go as Penicuik tried to finish off the game. In the last ten minutes Penicuik took the sting out the game and it came to a close... Penicuik Ath. 2 Fauldhouse Utd. 1.

A role reversal from early in the season when we beat Penicuik but they were the better side then, so we can't complain. We would like to congratulate Penicuik Athletic on winning the McBookie.com Premier League with two games to go.... Well done.
