BROXBURN ATHLETIC V BO’NESS UNITED

Bo’ness came to Albyn Park looking to maintain their champion league effort with a win while Broxburn in their last home game wanted to finish on a high. Both teams were evenly matched and the match was played at a fast pace with the teams displaying plenty of skilful football.

In the first few minutes created chances but gradually Broxburn began to dominate coming close in the 7th and 11th minutes who was dangerous in going forward but he also had his hands full in containing the tricky Bo’ness winger Cribben. In the 14th minute very much against the run of play Bo’ness went ahead when Cribben cut inside and his cross /shot beat the Broxburn keeper. Shortly after Bo’ness had to substitute their goalkeeper and brought on Wallace.

Broxburn began to press again and in the 20th minute Weir had a bad miss from inside the Bo’ness box. In the 35th minute Fairbairn from a free kick brought out an excellent save from the Bo’ness keeper Wallace. Bo’ness were still dangerous on the break and in the 37th minute Snowden’s shot was well saved by Flockhart the Broxburn keeper. The half ended after a good cross from Weir but Cowan’s header was wide of the Bo’ness goal.

Broxburn opened the second half brightly with a good run from Pittman but his final shot was weak. In the 49th minute Bo’ness had a good chance to extend their lead through Scott but he shot wide. However Broxburn continued to press and in the 53rd minute Weir went close with a header. In the 54th minute a good interpassing move ended in Gibson scoring for Broxburn with a powerful drive from a cross by Cowan.

Bo’ness tried to get back into the game and in the 61st minute went close when Nimmo shot over the bar. In the 66th minute Bo’ness brought on Hislop. However in the 68th minute after a determined penetrating run from Pittman he was brought down in the penalty box and Cowan comfortably converted the penalty.

Bo’ness then brought on a further substitute Anderson and they began to press for an equaliser. In the 75th minute Campbell scored with a header. Bo’ness continued to press but several corners came to nothing. In the closing minutes Broxburn increasingly dominated the game and both Pittman and Cowan squandered chances to put Broxburn ahead. In the end a draw was a fair result and both teams are to be congratulated on an excellent game but Bo’ness may come to rue the dropped 2 points.
