Getting tight for the home straight !
On Grand National day it was United who were not at the races with a 1-1 draw against Broughty Athletic. The early stages of the game were played mostly in the middle of the park without either goalkeeper being involved and with Broughty first to most of the ball. Ten minutes in saw the first attempt at goal as Ross Donnelly fired across the six yard box only for the big goalie to smother the ball. Russell for Athletic went close also as he cut inside and shot inches wide of the post on quarter of an hour. Five minutes later a great ball from Gary Shanks through the middle found Ross Donnelly but he couldn't get it under control and the chance was lost. Andy Murphy brought of a great point blank save from McCunnie as he looked certain to burst the net to keep his goal intact, the first substitution minutes later saw Shaun Martin replace Rees Smith. Broughty came close again with a rocket of a shot shaving the crossbar as they took command in the first forty five. The breakthrough finally came for the visitors when Allan picked out Russell in the box and he flicked it by Murphy.... Fauldhouse United 0 Broughty Athletic 1, and seconds later the whistle blew for half time.
Within minutes of the restart Ross Donnelly picked up an injury and Kenny Martin came on in his place. Quarter of an hour gone into the second half saw Broughty go down to ten men with Cameron being red carded. Fauldhouse put more pressure on now as they searched for the equaliser and Gary Shanks went close on seventy two minutes. Ross in goal for the visitors was stopping everything Fauldhouse were throwing at them as they held on with ten men. Eighty minutes on the clock United got back in the game when Gary Fallon cracked in a 25 yard drive which nestled in the bottom right hand corner of the net... Fauldhouse Utd. 1 Broughty Ath. 1. For the remaining ten minutes we could not get the all important second goal and it finished for a final score of Fauldhouse United 1 Broughty Athletic 1.
Five points from our last four league games and we seem to be faltering at the wrong time of the season, I'm sure we will turn it around and get back in the groove though.
