Match report

Huge game for the Dokens today as a win would guarantee them promotion to the premier division, this game does not guarantee the league title but it would only leave Downfield as the only team who could catch them...however in order for Downfield to stand a chance, they would have to have a clear 6 goal margin for there remaining games, but regardless of that if the Dokens win here, they would only need 1 point from there remaining 2 games to guarantee the league title..phew!

Both teams look up for this game with Newburgh looking the hungrier for long spells in the first half, they closed the Dokens players down at lightning speed and it was a hard call to say who would be 1st to break the deadlock! Half hour on the clock and North End have a dangerous attack Reece Ritchie makes a terrific run down the wing and makes a breath taking diagonal pass across field to Joe Culqhoun, he composes himself skips past a defender and pulls the trigger...however the shot was misplaced and the ball flashes wide past the post, this move ignites the Dokens and they have a few good attacks but they are mostly dealt with by the Newburgh defenders, another dangerous move when Ben Sivewright makes a defence splitting pass forward to Scott McComiskie who again shoots wide, then in the 40th minute Reece Ritchie who was proving a handful for the home team defence breaks clear out wide with only the keeper to skip round he is brought down and the referee has no hesitation in pointing to the spot..PENALTY.... Scott McComskie steps up and ...GOAL.. 1-0 North End. Half Time.

Second Half: 11 mins in to the 2nd half and North End were unlucky when a Barry Mcnaughton header smashes off the post, then moments later the Dokens are on a counter attack, Reece Ritchie makes a pinpoint pass, the ball lands perfectly on the end of Scott McComiskie's usually deadly boots, but on this ocassion he blasts over the bar, great shot, but unlucky! next up was Calvin Culqhoun with a fantastic hard driven shot, one of the Newburgh players manages to stop the shot on the line with his hand, the referee didnt spot this and play carries on., North End are now chasing a goal and are attacking at every opportunity, this time Reece Ritchie through the middle, passes out to Calvin Culqhoun who immediatley cuts the ball across to McComiskie who cleverly dummies the ball and leaves it for the on-rushing Reece Ritchie who fires it in to the back of the net..GOAL!!! 2-0 North End (Reece Ritchie) Things were going as planned now for the Dokens, but somebody forgot to tell the Newburgh players! they were not giving up and the tide was changing, although the Dokens had a two goal lead Newburgh were starting to cause problems and there hard work paid off in the 72nd minute when there winger with the ball at his feet managed to beat everybody and squeeze a low hit cross over and somehow it eneded up at the inside post before someone poked it in..GOAL Newburgh!! 2-1 North End. North End now hanging on were not without anymore chances and Scott McComiskie was really unlucky when his shot late on bounced off the top off the bar, there were no more goals though and the Dokens ended up worthy winners against an excellent Newburgh team. This result Guarantees the Dokens one of the two promotion spots ...so a big HUGE well done to everybody connected with the club, lets move on and get 1 more point which seals the league title as well now :-)
