Brechin Vics 2 Newburgh 3
Vics were again up against promotion contenders in the form of Fife outfit Newburgh. The game started slowly with both sides having their share of possession but little in the way of chances. The game burst into life on 12 mins when Newburgh were awarded a corner kick. From the resultant kick the ball was played into the box and Ferguson met the ball 8 yards out and powered a header passed the helpless Robbie. Vics retaliated immediately and McKay came close but his effort was cleared off the line. Newburgh increased their lead on 17 mins in fortunate circumstances. They were awarded a free kick some 25 yards from goal from which Finlay's driven shot took a wicked deflection off the Vics defensive wall wrong footing Robbie who could only watch as the ball crept into the corner of the net. Vics to their credit continued to try and play football and attack at every opportunity and were rewarded when McKay's looping header from 8 yards sailed into the corner of the net.
Halt time 1-2
Vics started the second half strongly and determinedly and within 2 mins of the restart they drew level. A ball was played into the box to McKay and when he tried to go past the defender the ball was handled and a penalty was awarded. Dunn stepped up and smashed the ball high into the top corner past the keeper. The game seemed to be turning Vics way when on 50 mins Finlay was shown a red card for reckless and dangerous tackle on McKay. The game as often happens after a sending off turned into a midfield battle with play being disjointed and broken up with a serious of free kicks and interuptions. Vics best effort came on 65 mins when Strachan's free kick from 25 yards was saved by the keeper. Vics were reduced to 10 men on 75 mins when Ferguson was sent off for reacting to a challenge. The game was swinging from end to end for the last 15 mins with the best chance landing to Newburgh but some how C Eaton managed to block an effort when it looked easier for the striker to score. Disaster struck Vics for the second week running when Newburgh scored with virtually the last kick of the game when Elder turned in the box and shot into the corner of the net from 10 yards.
