The "Pansies" were not for wilting !
Another away game the third on the bounce saw us travel the road and the miles up to Dundee. With only four minutes on the clock Gary Shanks took a direct free kick which had Hutchison in the home goal having to tip his shot over the bar. Next up Rees Smith but he couldn't manage to control the ball in the box and the chance was gone. Fauldhouse were showing a bit more going forward than their hosts and it was no surprise in sixteen minutes when Gary Shanks from another free kick found the top right hand corner of the net, what a strike !... 1-0 United. A bit of handbags in the twentieth minute saw Mark Wilkins and O'Connor for Violet both shown red cards, it seemed to upset United's rhythm and eight minutes later Violet took advantage, with a quick break down the left the ball was squared for the Dundee forward Martin to tap in easily....1-1. Shortly after Ross Donnelly was injured and was replaced by Shaun Martin. Five minutes from the interval the home side took the lead McVicor had a shot from just inside the eighteen yard box that took a wicked deflection off Gary Fallon for an unfortunate o.g. 2-1 and it stayed that way until the break... Half time Dundee Violet 2 Fauldhouse United 1.
Fauldhouse started brightly five minutes in but Shaun Martins shot was well saved by the big goalie. An audatious effort from forty yards saw United's keeper Andy Murphy scrambling back as it went inches over the bar. On the hour mark Fauldhouse were awarded a penalty, Shaun Martin being barged in the back as he was about to receive the ball, Shanks stepped up to convert and give the keeper no chance... 2-2. Shaun Martin had a great chance to put us in front minutes later but hit the side netting. Ten minutes to go the game looked to be United's when centre forward Craig Chilton won the ball with three defenders surrounding him, fell to the ground got back up and two strides later cracked in a shot for 3-2 United. As time was running out going into the 94th minute a cheap foul was given away on the edge of the eighteen yard box and what a strike by Reilly from the resulting free kick to level the game, and it finished... Dundee Violet 3 Fauldhouse United 3.
United were not on their game today and a draw was possibly a fair result, but we will certainly need to get back on track quickly as the games are running out fast.
