Report from Dalkeith Thistle

The Jags came from behind twice to win this game with a terrific second half performance.

The match burst into life straight from the kick off with Glenrothes on the front foot from the off and Ian Griffen almost opened the scoring in the first minute when his shot from the angle of the penalty area slid just past the post.

The Jags came storming back and Steven Pusledzki almost caught out the visiting keeper with an audacious lob which just dropped the wrong side of the post.

Glenrothes were enjoying the best of the play dominating possession and were getting a lot of joy down the Dalkeith left.  The Glens  and should really have gone ahead on 15 minutes but for a terrific double save from Ross Combe in the Dalkeith goal, however, the visitors did take the lead on 22 minutes.

A deep cross from the Dalkeith left eluded Combe and Paterson appeared to have been fouled as he tried to clear the ball, however The Glens played to the whistle and when the ball was played to Steven Leslie from six yards out he made no mistake in lashing the ball past Combe.

The loss of the goal galvanised The Jags and they burst into life with the equalising goal three minutes later when Steven Pusledzki found space on the right and played a ball across the face of the goal where Scott McNaughton was presented with an open goal and an easy tap in.

This settled the Jags and the balance of play became more even with both sides enjoying possession of the ball in equal quantities, however, right on half time the visitors regained the lead.  David Morris was caught in possession just inside The Glens half allowing Thomson to send a through ball which eluded the Dalkeith back four and finding Ian Griffin whose low shot from the left nestled in the far corner of the net.

Half Time: Dalkeith 1-2 Glenrothes

If the first half belonged to the visitors The Jags dominated the second as they had clearly been given a half time talking to which gave them the desire to win.

The Jags were forcing a series of corners and free kicks around the penalty area and  in the 52nd minute equalised in somewhat fortuitous circumstances.  There was an old school stramash in the penalty box and when the ball was cleared of the goal line by a Glens defender – the clearance cannoned off the back of Darren Thompson and into the net.

The Jags had their tails up and in the 64th minute went ahead for the first time in the match Darren Flynn capping a fine performance with a super goal – scoring from the angle of the penalty box with a low shot that fizzed past the Glens keeper.

The Glens looked shell shocked as they failed to cope with the intensity of the Dalkeith play and could have gone further behind when Sean Lally managed to hit the bar from no more that two yards out, however, the Jags did finally put the game to bed with 8 minutes remaining.

Another ball straight down the middle found Darren Flynn and as he raced into the penalty area he was brought crashing to the ground by two Glens defenders.  Once the dust had settled Steven Pusledzki showed a cool head and great composure to send the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot to finish the scoring and ensure the points went to Dalkeith.
