Report from Fauldhouse United

United go second.

Penicuik Athletic were the visitors to Parkview and were sent away pointless after a great encounter and advert for the Premier League. As expected before the game it was a good hard game in the early stages between two teams with hopes of being in the automatic promotion places come the end of the season. Fauldhouse were first to show and the breakthrough came on thirteen minutes when Mark Wilkins put a perfect pinpoint cross to Big Jamie Gallagher who headed the ball past the helpless Bejaoui in the Penicuik goal... Fauldhouse Utd. 1 Penicuik Ath. 0.  Both teams had to work their socks off with no quarter given and the game even stevens at this point apart from the scoreline. United came close again to getting another when a Jason Deans shot was cleared off the line. Just on half time Ian Stewart made a terrific save from Patterson to keep us in front...Half time  Fauldhouse Utd. 1 Penicuik Ath. 0.  The second half got underway and in fifty three minutes Ian Stewart was called on again to make a good stop from McCallum as Penicuik piled on the pressure for the equaliser, on the hour mark Jason Deans fired a shot from 30yards which Cuiky keeper Bejaoui did well to save then Jamie Gallagher headed the ball just wide. Sam Scott was red carded for a rash tackle on Lister as he lost control of the ball and lunged in, no complaints !  The House responded by Bringing on Adam Fairweather to bolster our defence. Ian Stewart once again made a great stop with quarter of an hour to go as Penicuik put us under pressure searching for an equaliser. Davey Cowan brought on Ross Donnelly and Mike McCormack and immediately with his first touch of the ball Ross was one on one with the goalie the ball dropped to Ross but his effort was turned round for a corner, from the resulting kick the ball was sent in to the near post and Ross headed the ball across the goal to Adam Fairweather to head in to the top corner....  2-0 Fauldhouse and much needed breathing space against an ever increasing dangerous Penicuik side. Fauldhouse managed to see the game out and it finished Fauldhouse United 2  Penicuik Athletic 0.  A great performance from the House achieving a much needed win against the best side by far we have played this season. Good performances all round and special mention to Ian Stewart who had some great saves at crucial times in the match.
